Here's our Breeders Cup Write Up that was sent to all our subscribers.
Breeders’ Cup Saturday
Del Mar (11-2-24)
Notes:
1) Late change (scratch) in race #6, is highlighted in reddish brown.
Doubles, Pick 3's and Pick 4
Race 6) 2/6
Race 7) 6/11
Race 8) 1/3/9
Race 9) 3/4/10
Race 10) 3/4/8/10
Race 11) 6/7/9 (12 is my last choice, but makes this bet expensive.)
Race 12) 8/9/10/12
Race 6) 1 1/8th Miles (f)BC Longines Distaff Purse $ 2,000,000
#2 Thorpedo Anna (morning line 4-5)
One of the best in the business and tough to go against.
Should have won the Travers against the guys, but ran out of track.
Only other loss was her final start of her two year old campaign when connections ran her on only two weeks rest.
She was briefly turned out (no training), and got back to work in early February.
Don’t like the odds, but she only loses if not feeling well, or another spontaneously generates speed.
Note: The two longshot scratches probably decided not to waste the race.
#6-Raging Sea takes the place of #9, who is a later scratch.
Straight Bet
a) #2 to Win, Place or Show
Exotics:
b) Trifecta: 2 with 6 with all
Race 7) 1 ½ Miles (Turf) Longines BC Turf Purse $ 5,000,000
#6 Far Bridge (morning line 6-1)
Could get the best race setup.
Both of the O’Brien horses (with 2 others) seem to like the top.
Our top choice gets an advantageous post and likes to come from off the pace.
In addition, this colt has done better on tracks with tighter turns,
and run his best with Rosario on board.
#11-Rebel’s Romance will probably be the favorite, but leaves from
a tough post.
Straight Bet
a) #6 to Win, Place or Show
Exotics:
b) Trifecta: 6/11 with 6/11 with all
Race 8) 1 ¼ Miles Longines BC Classic Purse $ 7,000,000
#1 Forever Young (morning line 4-1)
This is the time of year when younger horses are often mature enough to compete with older, and you get a weight advantage.
Our top choice only has 1 loss. That was a near miss in the Kentucky Derby.
He was the best that day, gaining at the end and just losing to a dead closer-Sierra Leone and to Mystik Dan who got a perfect rail trip.
We were lucky enough to have the large trifecta in that race, and also fortunate that Mystic Dan wasn’t disqualified for trying to squeeze
through a hole of his own making.
Straight Bet
a) #1 to Win, Place or Show
Exotics:
b) Trifecta Box: 1/3/9/11
Race 9) 1 3/8th Miles (Turf) (f) Maker’s Mark Purse $ 2,000,000
#3 Cinderella’s Dream (morning line 4-1)
Surprised to see odds of 4-1, and surprised that none of the track
handicappers like this filly.
Here’s what I like:
1) She can win fast or slow.
a) Her last race was easy while the fractions were slow.
b) Two back she broke a long standing all ages track record at Aqueduct.
c) She’s going longer today, but seemed to have lots more to give at the end of her Saratoga race.
d) Has been given substantial time off, while training well.
Note: In last, #2-Full Count Felicia was allowed to get away with a 14 length lead on the top. That may not be as easy today going longer and with
#10-Moira being able to close.
Straight Bet
a) #3 to Win, Place or Show
Exotics:
b) Trifecta: 3 with 2/4/5/7/10 with 2/4/5/7/10
Race 10) 6 Furlongs Cygames Sprint Purse $ 2,000,000
#8 Straight No Chaser (morning line 5-1)
Many in here want or need the front.
#3-Federal Judge, and our top choice have good early speed.
Our top choice gets veteran J. Velazquez, while #3 gets I. Ortiz, as Prat opts off.
Hopefully, these two don’t battle each other into submission.
In case this race falls apart #10-Mulikin could pick up the pieces.
In addition, I would argue that our selection ran out of his last race better than any of the rest, and probably could have beaten the track record if the pace was more competitive.
Straight Bet
a) #8 to Win, Place or Show
Exotics:
b) Trifecta: 8 with 3/4/10 with 3/4/10
Race 11) 1 Mile (Turf) Fanduel BC Mile Purse $ 2,000,000
#6 Notable Speech (morning line 7-2)
Five wins in 7 starts.
The two losses were without excuses.
The five wins beat these.
Top trainer Appleby thinks this is one of the best he’s brought to the states.
Pretty impressive when he’s won 10 of 20 BC races.
Straight Bet
a) #6 to Win, Place or Show
Exotics:
b) Trifecta: 6 with 7/9/12 with 7/9/12
Race 12)
1 Mile Big Ass Fans BC (That’s what it’s called.) Purse $ 1,000,000
#10 Muth (morning line 9-2)
He sold for 2 million at the Ocala sale and took money as one of the early Derby favorites, but bad things started happening….from Baffert issues to getting sick.
He went off as the favorite in The G1 CA Crown and backs through the field.
He also didn’t train as sharply before that race.
Anyway…. In the winter he looked like one of the most dominant horses you’ll see.
In the Arkansas Derby he was having digestive issues….. don’t ask, and still ran over the field.
I would actually consider today’s race a class drop.
He’s training better now, and maybe couldl revert back to prior form.
This’ll be interesting because many in here want or need the top.
Maybe one gets away from the field, but I would expect closers will dominate in a fast final time.
Note: #12-Mufasa set the 7 furlong track record at Colonial two starts back, but gets stuck with a difficult post opening into a turn.
Straight Bet
a) #10 to Win, Place or Show
Exotics:
b) Trifecta: 10 with 8/9/12/14
