This is another game that has moved since released 3 days ago. I actually thought Army would open at a bigger number after closing at -14 against Notre Dame.
The Black Knights are tough, but they were outclassed by the Irish in a game that never seemed competitive.
Depending on metrics used, Army had the easiest strength of schedule in the country this season. Opposing teams prior to Notre Dame were a combined 18 wins and 53 losses. Sometimes teams dropping this much in class can be a good value, especially after a physical game. But, this angle usually doesn’t work after a team suffers its’ first loss of the season.
UTSA is another improving team. Most importantly, they rank 9th in rushing defense.
Army does rank first in rushing offense, but those numbers were compiled against weaker defensive opponents.
