The non-playoff bowl games have just been boring.

If it wasn’t for gambling, TV ratings would be nonexistent.

Conversely, and for lack of a better superlative, The Playoff contests have been fantastic. At one point, I thought we might get to see a matchup between Texas and Notre Dame.  I don’t now.  Texas has had some of the best line play in the country. But Ohio State’s has improved. Actually, everything on Ohio State has improved.

I thought their game against Tennessee might be an anomaly. I think I was wrong.

I thought Ryan Day couldn’t realize his team’s potential.  I think I was wrong again.

Ohio State has some compelling history in the last month. They only scored  10 points in a loss to Michigan. They had zero points in the second half. 32 days later they embarrassed previously undefeated Oregon, who had beaten 3 playoff teams.

Ohio State has improved and now play with more confidence.

1) The governor has been taken off of Will Howard.

2) They had 438 cumulative total yards in the first quarter against Tennessee and Oregon, while only giving up 58.

3) They’re more aggressive

4) Jeremiah Smith, who could have been in pullups 14 years ago,  would arguably be the first pick in the draft this year-if eligible.

5) The defense has played better, making Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel look atypically confused.

On the other side of the ball:

1) Texas looked like they were going to lose to Arizona State, who have some great players, but are not deep.

2) They shouldn’t have covered against Clemson who is just not that good. The Tiger’s defense is average at best.

This is a big number. Maybe The Buckeye’s will resemble the Book “Flowers for Algernon” or it’s film adaptation; Charly, but right now colloquially speaking They Look Like The Team To Beat.

I like The Ohio State Buckeyes -5.5
