Detractors for Notre Dame have a few valid points after they played Georgia.
1) The Bulldog’s quarterback is not elite.
2) Their backup punter played poorly.
3) One Notre Dame touchdown was a kickoff return, another was helped by a turnover.
Here's what I liked about Notre Dame in their last game.
1) They pretty much stopped Georgia when needed. The Bulldogs really only had two impressive drives.
2) The Notre Dame secondary let Georgia take advantage on 3 plays in succession, but except for 1 long dropped pass, played pretty well.
3)Neither team can afford to lose their quarterback, but Penn State has nothing in the Bullpen.
4) Notre Dame is a veteran team that did well in last year’s transfer portal.
At the time of this writing, I’m not sure if Notre Dame’s defensive lineman Howard Cross is playing.
He was on and off the field against Georgia, and his name didn’t show up in the boxscore. Cross could be a good draft pick, but isn’t that big. He’s definitely disruptive at this level. I was impressed by how well Notre Dame’s banged up defensive line played late in the game.
One of the announcers appropriately stated that Georgia’s offensive line was appreciably bigger. He thought they would eventually wear down The Fighting Irish. The opposite happened. They got stronger.
I like The Notre Dame Fighting Irish -1.5
